Derl Horn, a Marine in the 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, "The Walking Dead," has written his memoirs about his service with the Marine Corps in Cuba and Vietnam. He was trained at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA, with Infantry Training Regiment at Camp Pendleton, CA.

As a Lance Corporal, Derl and twenty-five other young Marines from Bravo Company survived a U-shaped ambush on July 2, 1967, during Operation Buffalo, north of the DMZ in Vietnam. His company was outnumbered by a North Vietnamese Army regiment.

Derl and his wife of PLACEHOLDER — number of years married, Marilyn, live in Springdale, Arkansas, where they enjoy their three children and five grandchildren.
